What we build
Custom Balloon Arches for Chicago Celebrations
Nothing changes the feel of a room faster than an arch. It gives the party a front door, a focal point and the photo everyone ends up posting.
Think of a balloon arch as a frame. It curves over whatever matters most that day (the entry, the cake, the head table, the stage, the guest of honor) and draws every eye to it. Compared with fresh florals or yards of fabric draping it costs far less, it reads from the back of a big hall, and it looks just as good on a phone screen as it does in person.
We don't start from a catalog. We start from your date, your colors and a measurement of the actual spot, then choose the balloon mix that gets the shape right: tiny 5-inch fillers, everyday 11-inch latex, 18- and 24-inch statement balloons, and chrome, pearl or foil accents where they help. On the day we bring it in, build it in place, and come back for it when the party's done.
Our arches go up for first birthdays and fiftieth birthdays, baby showers and gender reveals, weddings, bridal showers, graduations, quinceañeras, baptisms, office parties and store openings. Any celebration with an entrance, a table or a spot for photos has room for one.
Arch styles
Balloon Arch Styles We Build
Pick the shape first and the rest of the design follows. These are the arch styles we build, and where each one shines.
Organic balloon arches
Organic arches skip the repeating pattern. Big, medium and tiny balloons are grouped in loose, uneven clusters so the arch looks lush and a bit free-form, which is the look most people mean when they show us a saved Instagram post. They hold tucked-in flowers and greenery nicely and photograph like a design piece. Because they pack in more balloons per foot than a classic arch, they sit a little higher on price.
Classic and spiral balloon arches
Classic arches are built from identical four-balloon clusters packed tightly along a frame. Rotate the colors from one cluster to the next and the arch twists into a spiral with two, three or four stripes. The result is tidy, sturdy and bold, so it's the natural pick for school colors, team colors and company colors at graduations, sports banquets and corporate events.
Round, circle and hoop arches
A circle arch (you'll also hear ring, round arch or hoop) runs balloons around some or all of a round frame. A full ring frames a person standing inside it. A half ring or crescent leaves the middle open so a name or a sign can hang there. Round arches are the favorite for photo spots, sweet 16s and proposals.
Square and backdrop arches
A square arch climbs up and across a rectangular frame, usually wrapped around a panel, a shimmer wall or a flower wall. You get a defined edge for photos and a finished stage behind the cake. If the arch and the backdrop should be designed together, our balloon backdrops page covers the panel options.
Half and asymmetrical arches
A half arch (also called a demi arch or a swoop) rises up one side of a doorway, panel or table and stops partway across the top. It's the current designer look, and since it uses fewer balloons than a full arch it's also a smart move when the budget is tight or the room is small.
Double arches
A double arch sets two arches together, one nested inside the other or one just in front, so the design has depth. It's how we keep an arch from looking small in a hotel ballroom, at a ceremony with a tall ceiling or at a store opening where it has to compete with the street.
Mini and tabletop arches
A tabletop arch is a compact arch, usually 4 to 6 feet wide, that sits over a cake table, dessert spread, gift table or sweetheart table. Small arches like these suit condo living rooms, restaurant private rooms and showers where every foot of floor is spoken for.
Entrance and doorway arches
An entrance arch shows guests where to go before they're through the door. We build them over front doors, porch stairs, garage doors facing the alley, venue doors and shop entrances. Street-facing arches get weights and tie-offs because gusts funnel between Chicago buildings. Add balloon columns on both sides for a full entry.
Large and giant balloon arches
Large arches start around 16 feet and cover double doors, stages and driveways. For openings, school events and outdoor festivals, giant arches can stretch 25 to 40 feet using 24- and 36-inch balloons. At that scale the arch becomes a custom balloon installation, planned around the site and its wind.
Balloon arches with flowers and greenery
Floral arches work silk or fresh blooms, eucalyptus, pampas or trailing greenery into the clusters. It's the softest version of an arch and the most at home at a wedding, and we build it often for bridal showers, baptisms and Mother's Day brunches.

Sizing
Choosing a Balloon Arch Size for Your Space
Grab a tape measure before you pick a size. An undersized arch disappears in photos, and an oversized one blocks the very door it's meant to frame.
| Arch size | Fits | Approx. balloons |
|---|---|---|
| 4–6 ft mini or tabletop arch | Cake, dessert and gift tables | 60–110 organic |
| 6.5–7 ft frame arch | A photo spot, a single door, a small backdrop | 90–130 organic |
| 10–12 ft arch | Front doors, porch steps, an 8 ft backdrop | 150–220 organic or 60–75 classic |
| 16–20 ft arch | Double doors, stages, a 10 ft backdrop | 240–360 organic or 100–130 classic |
| 25 ft and bigger | Store openings, gyms, outdoor entrances | Scoped per site |
We measure an arch along its curve, not across the floor. A 16–20 ft arch usually stands about 8–9 ft tall and 8–10 ft wide. Balloon counts shift with balloon size and how full you want it. In a vintage apartment, check the ceiling height before choosing anything over 8 ft tall.
How many balloons go into a balloon arch? Plan on about 5–6 balloons per foot for a classic arch of 11-inch balloons, and roughly 12–18 per foot for an organic arch, since it layers 5-, 11- and 18-inch sizes. In practice a 6 ft organic arch takes around 70–110 balloons and a 20 ft one takes 240–360. A pack of 50 covers a tabletop or half arch, but not a full arch over a doorway.
Pricing
How Much Does a Balloon Arch Cost in Chicago?
Most of our full-size arches come in between $250 and $600. Here are our starting prices and the things that move a quote up or down.
| Arch | Starting at |
|---|---|
| Mini or tabletop arch (4–6 ft) | $195 |
| Frame arch with organic garland (6.5–7 ft) | $249 |
| Doorway arch (10–12 ft) | $325 |
| Themed welcome arch with foil accents | $375 |
| Full balloon arch (16–20 ft) | $450 |
| Double, giant and 25 ft+ arches | Custom quote |
Delivery, setup and pickup are included across the city and inner suburbs. Drives beyond about 30 miles from the Loop add a travel fee starting at $60.
What moves the price of a balloon arch:
- Length and density. Each extra foot, and every extra layer of clusters, adds balloons and build time.
- Style. Organic arches take more balloons per foot than classic or spiral arches do.
- The balloons themselves. Chrome, pearl, double-stuffed (a balloon inside a balloon for a custom shade) and 18–36 inch balloons cost more than standard latex.
- Extras. Florals and greenery, foil shapes, vinyl names, marquee letters and backdrop panels.
- How it stands. A freestanding frame is part of most quotes. Hanging an arch from a venue's beams or pipes takes extra labor and the venue's sign-off.
- Getting in the building. A booked freight elevator, a timed loading-dock slot or a long carry from the curb in the Loop or Streeterville adds time on the day.
- Distance and timing. A run from Evanston to Naperville, a 7 a.m. install or a late-night strike all count.
Need a real number? Send the date, venue, size and colors and you'll get a written quote back. The garland, column and backdrop pages each list their own starting prices if you're planning more than an arch.
Occasions
Balloon Arches for Every Occasion
The occasion sets the palette and the size. These are the celebrations that keep our arch frames busy.
Birthday party balloon arches
First birthdays, kids' character parties, sweet 16s and the big ones (30, 40, 50, 60), often with a marquee number or the guest of honor's colors worked in.
Baby shower and gender reveal arches
Soft neutrals and pastels for showers and sprinkles, and pink-and-blue arches with a built-in reveal moment for gender reveals.

Colors and themes
Popular Balloon Arch Colors and Themes
Send us an invitation, a screenshot or just two colors you love, and we'll build the palette out from there.
The palettes Chicago hosts ask for most
- Black and gold. The default for milestone birthdays and New Year's Eve.
- Blush and white, pink and gold, ivory and gold. Bridal showers, baby showers and first birthdays.
- Pastels and rainbow. Kids' parties, Easter and Pride month in June.
- Sky blue, white and red. The Chicago flag palette, popular for hometown parties, going-away parties and the Fourth of July.
- Sage, dusty blue, terracotta and earth tones. The boho palette for showers and weddings.
- School and team colors. Grad parties and watch parties in Cubs blue and red, Sox black and silver, Bears navy and orange, or Bulls red and black.
- Green and white, red and gold, green, white and red. St. Patrick's Day, Lunar New Year and Mexican Independence Day in September.
Themes
For character parties we pair licensed foil balloons with latex in the matching colors. Bluey, Mickey and Minnie, Spider-Man, Paw Patrol, Toy Story, Hello Kitty, Pokémon and Winnie the Pooh come up most. Beyond characters, people love dinosaurs, mermaids, under the sea, the very hungry caterpillar and teddy-bear baby showers. Around here, winter wonderland arches carry right through the long winter, and Halloween arches are a fixture all through October.
Your options
Full Installation, Arch Rental or a DIY Balloon Arch Kit?
There's more than one way to get an arch into your party. Here's how the options stack up.
| Option | What's included | Good choice when |
|---|---|---|
| Full installation | Design, delivery, an on-site build and pickup afterward | The arch is the centerpiece and you'd rather not spend the morning on a ladder |
| Balloon arch rental | A ready-built frame arch dropped off and collected later | Photo spots, smaller arches and simple setups |
| Grab-and-go garland | A ready-made garland you collect and put up yourself | A short run for a table or a wall on a tight budget |
| DIY balloon arch kit | Loose balloons, a decorating strip and glue dots | Small arches, plenty of time and a patient helper |
Is a balloon arch hard to make yourself? A small kit arch is a fair weekend project if you own a pump. A full organic arch is a different job: it takes a pro one to three hours on-site, while first-timers often spend four to eight, plus a second run to the store. Balloons blown up too early or with the wrong pump also pop, sag and go cloudy before guests arrive. If the arch is the focal point of the day, having it built tends to be worth it.
Chicago weather
Outdoor Balloon Arches in Chicago Cold, Sun and Wind
An arch can absolutely go outside here. It just needs a plan for whichever season you're in.
Chicago gives latex a hard time at both ends of the year. In January the daytime high hovers around freezing and nights drop into the teens, and cold makes the air inside each balloon contract, so an arch left outside looks soft and wrinkled within the hour (it firms up again once it warms). July brings highs in the mid-80s with sticky stretches, and strong sun oxidizes latex until it turns matte and cloudy, while heat swells the air inside until balloons pop. All year, gusts off Lake Michigan and wind on rooftops and high-rise terraces push on an arch like a sail.
- Winter: build it just inside. From November to March we put the arch in the vestibule, the lobby or just inside the front door, or mix in foil balloons, which keep their shape better in the cold.
- Summer: find shade. A covered porch, a tent, the shady side of the house or the north side of a building all help.
- Install close to start time. For outdoor parties we schedule the build as late as is practical rather than first thing in the morning.
- Air, not helium. Outdoor arches are air-filled on a frame. Helium shrinks in the cold and gives up quickly in the heat.
- Weight and tie everything. Outdoor and rooftop arches get heavy bases and tie-offs to railings or posts so a lake gust can't move them.
- Keep a weather plan. Light rain is fine for latex. Thunderstorms, lightning and high wind mean bringing the arch indoors or under cover.
Longevity
How Long Does a Balloon Arch Last?
Inside and air-filled, an arch stays party-ready for several days. Outdoors in peak summer or deep winter, plan on the party itself.
| Setting | How long it looks good |
|---|---|
| Air-filled, indoors at room temperature | Several days, often a week or longer |
| Air-filled, outside in shade in spring or fall | A full day, often into the next |
| Air-filled, outside in direct July sun | A few hours before fading and popping |
| Air-filled, outside below freezing | A few hours, looking softer and wrinkled as the air contracts |
Will a balloon arch still look good after 4 days? If it's air-filled and indoors, yes, which is why an evening-before setup works for a morning shower and why arches for weekend-long events stay inside. Helium arches and bouquets are the exception: expect hours, not days, unless they're treated to float longer. Keep any arch a few feet from radiators, space heaters and heat vents, since dry winter heat shortens its life more than time does.
How it works
How to Book a Balloon Arch in Chicago
Four easy steps. Asking for a quote is free and doesn't lock you into anything.
- 1
Share the details
Your date, venue or zip code, the size or space, colors and any photos you like. A minute is plenty.
- 2
Get a design and a price
We send back a design plan and a written quote, and tweak it until it's right at no charge.
- 3
We build it on-site
We arrive inside your setup window, sort out the elevator or dock if there is one, and build until it's steady and camera-ready.
- 4
Party, then pickup
Enjoy the day. If teardown is part of the quote, we come back for the frame and the balloons.
How early should you book a balloon arch? Two to four weeks out works for most parties. Go earlier for late-May and June graduations, Saturdays from May through October, and the December holiday weekends, when local decorators book up first. Short-notice dates are still worth a call.

Questions
Balloon Arches in Chicago: FAQ
What is a fair price for a balloon arch?
For an arch designed and built on-site, expect a few hundred dollars. Ours start at $195 for a tabletop arch, $249 for a 6.5–7 ft frame arch and $450 for a full 16–20 ft arch, with delivery, setup and pickup included. Size, style, balloon count, extras and building access set the final number.
How long do balloon arches last?
Air-filled and indoors, a balloon arch lasts several days and often a week or more. Outside in shade it lasts about a day. In direct summer sun, or below freezing in winter, plan on a few hours. Helium arches only last hours unless they're treated.
How many balloons does a balloon arch take?
Around 12–18 per foot for an organic arch and 5–6 per foot for a classic one. A 6 ft organic arch uses roughly 70–110 balloons, and a 20 ft organic arch uses about 240–360.
Is a balloon arch the same thing as a balloon garland?
A garland is the flexible strand of balloons. An arch is a garland, or rows of classic clusters, built over a frame or anchored so it stands and curves on its own. Every organic arch is a garland on a frame, but a garland can also run along a mantel, a wall or a table.
Do balloon arches use helium?
Almost never. A frame holds the arch up and the balloons are filled with air, so it lasts longer and costs less. Helium is saved for floating pieces and bouquets, which only last from a few hours to a day.
Can you put a balloon arch outside in Chicago?
Yes, with a plan. In summer it goes in shade and gets built close to start time. In winter it's best just inside the door, in a lobby or vestibule, or mixed with foil balloons, because cold makes latex shrink and wrinkle. Every outdoor arch is weighted against the wind.
How far in advance should I make a balloon arch?
For an indoor event, an air-filled arch can be built a day or two ahead with no visible change. Outdoor arches should go up the same day, as close to the start as practical. To book one with us, two to four weeks' notice is comfortable.
Does Michaels or Hobby Lobby do balloon arches?
Both sell DIY balloon arch kits, which are bags of latex balloons with a decorating strip that you inflate and assemble yourself. That's fine for a small arch if you have a pump and an afternoon. For a full-size arch designed in your colors and built at your venue, that's what we do.
Do you deliver the arch and set it up?
Yes. Full-service arches are delivered, built in place and picked up after the party. Ready-made frame arches and grab-and-go garlands are an option if you'd rather do the setup yourself.
Can you get an arch into a high-rise or condo building?
Yes. Big arches are built in sections and finished in the room, so they fit through standard doors and elevators. If your building needs a freight elevator reservation, a dock time or a certificate of insurance from vendors, tell us when you book and we'll plan around it.
What if someone at the party is allergic to latex?
We can build it latex-free. Arches, walls and backdrops all work in foil balloons, and plenty of hospitals, schools and offices require foil anyway.
Do you tip a balloon arch decorator?
It's up to you. Some hosts tip the install crew 10–15% for a large or very early build, and others leave a review instead.
Tell us the date. We'll build the balloon arches.
